Flashback from Rollski Deutschland team member Nico Rieckhoff to FIS Roller Ski World Cup 2020: "We, Team Germany, are very happy that the Organizers in Otepää/Tartu and Madona decided to let the events take place, besides all challenges! There were clear concepts regarding the corona-restrictions, as well as great efforts to obey them and we are glad, that for this reason, we were able to participate. Since other World Cups had been cancelled beforehand, our expectations to compete in this year shrunk and the more we were happy to finally be able to come to the Baltics. Besides the comparatively low number of athletes due to the crisis, also from our own team because of travel restrictions by car, we were able to have difficult and interesting races, because the organizers did not hold back any efforts to guarantee a quality competition and organization and also due to the great and strong participation of Baltic athletes.
Otepää Tehvandi Stadium had very nice tracks and the mass start in Tartu was very suiting for the Rollerskiing WC as it gave the athletes the opportunity to show their speed capabilities. Madona, Latvia had much to offer, taking place in the middle of the city twice, with technical passages in the massstart and a challenging uphill sprint as well as a stadium track, great variety and publicity was given. As in the years before, an absolute selling point for the events was the huge amount of media-efforts: TV broadcast, livestreams, pictures, Facebook, websites; these are especially crucial under the current circumstances and are the heartbeat of the scene these days!
We hope to come to Estonia and Latvia again, hopefully under relaxed conditions!"

FIS Roller Ski World Cup Otepää/Tartu jumped in as "last minute" substitute for WC stage in Slovakia. One of event anchors - competition secretary Ave Nurk told us that there was so many things to learn because the OC had no experience of organizing ROL WC. Obviously due to covid-19 the OC had to struggle many new issues. How to cater, transport and accommodate athletes and staff in this situation. Finally we found the solutions and everything turned out pretty well. The competition days were very intriguing and full of excitement. Especially Sprint day. There is no other format where you could see so many yellow cards and warnings than classic sprint on roller skis. Mass start on the third biggest highway in Estonia turned out also pretty well. We are very happy that we had chance to host Roller Ski World Cup in Estonia. There are many things that we can and want to do better and hopefully we can prove it next year! Many thanks to all who made it happen! Thanks for support Suusaliit, Tehvandi Spordikeskus, Tartu Suusaklubi! ...
